6 Vintage Collages

April 23, 2009 · 7 Comments

I created these six collages for a craft show at a local art gallery this weekend and have made them available as prints. If they do not sell at the show, the originals will be available to purchase here. I’ll add another post with details and whats available after the show.

I absolutely loved making these because it was a combination of all the things I like to do. First I created the images with Photoshop using various vintage images, papers and textures. Printed them on Epson archival paper and mounted them with Mod Podge to 10×10 inch canvas. Painted the edges with black acrylic paint then finished them with a semigloss varnish. Im so very happy with the results of these I almost dont want to sell the originals…but when I make more room on my walls I can make myself some more :)

Please click on the images for larger views or to order prints online. If you would like to order signed prints directly from me just leave me a comment or email acornidez@gmail.comPrints are 10×10 inches printed on 11×17 inch Epson matte archival paper. Centered for easy trimming/framing. Price is $25 each (includes S&H within the US and if you buy 2 you can pick another for free! If you have any questions just ask. Thanks!

Pictures below show how the prints would look framed.

    They’re all so…luscious. I love it!

They are very nice. One of the drawbacks to Photoshop is that a lot of the work besides looking spectacular looks similar to other work done there. I’m not sure what it is. I’m wiped out by the beauty of the first piece than find all the pieces similar. Or maybe that’s just me.

Thanks for stopping by and your comment David. Yes they are all similar but thats how I wanted them to be, like a set. I could have made them all totally different by placing the ladies in different places besides the left hand side, using other backgrounds than the papers/textures etc but its a series and I wanted them all to be similar.

I think you took my criticism the wrong way. I like your work. (The pieces are all beautiful.) My comment was more far ranging. I went to an exhibit of collage work last summer here in Toronto. They were huge pieces. And beautiful. (They must have cost a fortune to produce.) The colours were spectacular. But in the end they had a similar feel to them. Not because the artist was trying to create a similar theme but it was something else. Hard to put your finger on. I don’t know if this similarity was a product of the artist or of the program (photoshop, I think) they were using to create their affects. I started to use Photoshop myself (still learning) along with my old cut and paste method (scissors and glue) and I found myself becoming entranced by certain affects. The technology seduces you. Well, that’s my experience so far. Once again I want to repeat, your work is beautiful.

Thank you David, I really appreciate it! You’re absoulutely right, I think if an artist uses the same techniques each time when creating their work they will all have a similiar look/feel to them. Thats why I try to use different mediums (Photoshop, traditional painting, drawing, photography etc) depending on what I’m making, because I get tired of each piece looking the same all the time. Unless of course its a series :) Hope you have a great night!

    Hi there,

You’re doing great work. I’m particularly amazed at the paintings. I’ve tried a hand at photography and was searching for like people on the net. Please take a minute to see my blog : http://photopic.wordpress.com
